Dragodoku is in testing on Google Play. If the store link doesn’t open yet, it will soon.

Dragodoku: a puzzle grid with a little fire dragon, a storm dragon and a golden egg.

How to play

Every board is split into coloured lairs. Place one dragon in every row, every column and every lair. Dragons are territorial: no two may touch, not even diagonally.

Every puzzle has exactly one answer, and you can always reach it by logic alone. No guessing needed.

New to puzzles like this? The app’s guided puzzle walks you through a small board move by move, in about a minute. It’s offered when you first open the app, and you can play it any time from How to play or Settings.

Controls

  • Tap a square to place a dragon (your Companion's face). Tap it again and the dragon becomes a flame, meaning "no dragon here"; tap once more to clear. (From version 2.8.0. Prefer the classic order, flame first? Or a ✕ or a ? instead of the flame? Settings.)
  • Long-press for a flame straight away (for a dragon, in the classic order).
  • Drag across squares to leave flames on lots at once.
  • Pinch with two fingers to zoom in on a big board. Zoomed in, one finger slides the board around (from version 2.10.0); a tap still places and marks, and a long-press that moves on leaves flames as it goes.

Dragon fire

With dragon fire on, a placed dragon scorches every square it rules out, so you can see the board narrow down. Turn it off in Settings (or on the toolbar) for a purer challenge.

Mistakes

A dragon that breaks a rule glows red and stripes its row, column or lair. Rather find your own? Turn Show mistakes off in Settings or on the board's toolbar (from version 2.8.0). A mistake still ends a flawless solve.

The Sage

Stuck? The Sage explains the next logical step in plain words and can show you where it applies. You get 3 free hints a day, shared by every board. Whenever a hint is open, a short optional ad adds 3 more.

Today’s Five

Every day brings five new puzzles, the same for everyone: Glow (6×6), Spark (7×7), Flame (8×8), Blaze (9×9) and the toughest, Inferno (10×10). They reset at midnight on your phone. Solve any one of them to keep your streak going and to hatch the day’s egg; every puzzle you solve also earns embers. Solve all five on the same day for a second egg, the Perfect Day egg. Each board stays hidden until you tap Start, so take your time getting ready. When you finish, you see how your time compares with everyone else who solved that puzzle today.

The Weekly Wildfire

Once a week there’s one big puzzle, the Weekly Wildfire: a 12×12, the same for everyone, open from Monday to Sunday (your phone’s week). It’s harder than any daily, with twelve lairs, and like the dailies it’s solved by logic alone. It waits behind Start like the dailies, and your time runs from Start to your last dragon on our server’s clock without pausing, so take it in one sitting if you want a leaderboard time (you can still put it down and come back; the puzzle saves). Solving it earns 15 embers and a Rare egg, Rare or better guaranteed; solve it flawlessly (no mistakes, no hints) and the egg is Epic or better. One Wildfire solve counts a week; it doesn’t count towards your streak, and there’s no Perfect Day egg for it. The week’s fastest solves have their own leaderboard.

The Monthly Firestorm

Once a month (from version 2.9.0) there’s one giant puzzle, the Monthly Firestorm: a 15×15 with fifteen lairs, the same for everyone, open from the first of the month to the last (your phone’s calendar; the first one runs from 12 to 31 October 2026). It’s the hardest board in the game and, like every Dragodoku, it’s solved by logic alone: pinch to zoom in, and the Sage can always show the next step. It waits behind Start and your time runs from Start to your last dragon on our server’s clock without pausing, so take it in one sitting if you want a leaderboard time (it saves if you put it down). Solving it earns 30 embers and a Legendary egg, Legendary guaranteed; solve it flawlessly (no mistakes, no hints) and the egg is Golden: a Gilded Legendary. One Firestorm solve counts a month; it doesn’t count towards your streak. The month’s fastest solves have their own leaderboard.

Past puzzles

Missed a day? The last 7 days’ puzzles stay open under Past puzzles on the home screen. They earn embers and the usual bonus-egg chance, but no leaderboard time, streak, day’s egg or Perfect Day egg.

Handy extras

Practice and embers

The same five sizes, with hundreds of practice puzzles each. Every solve (daily, past or practice) earns embers, 1 for Glow up to 5 for Inferno, and every 10 embers lay an ember egg. Your embers show at the top of the home screen: tap them to see how close the next egg is and where to earn more. Embers can’t be bought.

Hatching dragons

Your first daily puzzle of the day earns an egg. Solve it flawlessly (without breaking a rule or using a hint) and it’s a lucky egg, with better odds of something rare. Solve all five of the day’s puzzles and you also earn a Perfect Day egg, with better odds still. There are 390 everyday species (from version 2.5.0; 150 in 2.3.0, 30 before): sixty-five in each of the six elements (Fire, Tide, Moss, Stone, Storm and Frost), from the volcanic and the subterranean to the glacial and the bioluminescent, with 19 Common, 16 Uncommon, 13 Rare, 10 Epic and 7 Legendary species in every element across the five lineages, every one with its own painted portrait; plus sixty limited-time event dragons. An egg rolls a rarity (the odds below) and an element, and then every species of that rarity and element is as likely as the next, so every dragon can be hatched. Any dragon can also hatch Gilded, a rare golden version.

You can’t buy eggs or dragons. Every one is earned by solving puzzles. These are the exact odds:

EpicSerpent4%9%11%2.6%
LegendarySovereign1%3%4%0.4%
Gildedany2%6%6%1%

Daily, lucky and Perfect Day eggs lean towards the element of the day: half of them hatch in that element, and the rest pick any of the six at random. Ember eggs pick any element.

Streaks earn bonus streak eggs, each with a 5% chance of hatching Gilded:

Streak of 30, 60, 90… days–80%20%
Streak of 100, 200, 300… days––100%

When milestones land on the same day, you get the better egg.

Rare and Golden eggs

Every puzzle you solve (daily, past or practice) also has a small chance of dropping a bonus egg. You can find at most one bonus egg a day, and each puzzle’s chance is fixed, so replaying a puzzle can’t roll it again.

Bonus eggChance per solveWhat hatches
Golden egg1 in 200 Always Gilded. Its rarity uses the daily egg odds above.
Rare egg1 in 50 Rare 75%, Epic 20%, Legendary 5%, with a 5% chance of Gilded.

Rare and Golden eggs can hatch in any of the six elements. The week’s Wildfire always gives a Rare egg (Rare 75%, Epic 20%, Legendary 5%); solved flawlessly, it gives one that is Epic or better (Epic 80%, Legendary 20%). The month’s Firestorm always gives a Legendary (a Rare egg with a Legendary floor, Gilded 1 in 20); solved flawlessly, it gives a Golden egg with the same floor: a Gilded Legendary.

From version 2.10.0, duel wins buy eggs too. Every prize win (the first five wins of a day) goes into your win bank, and you cash in whenever you like: 3 wins for an Ember egg (the odds in the table above), 10 for a Lucky egg, 25 for a Rare egg (Rare 75%, Epic 20%, Legendary 5%), 50 for an Epic-or-better egg (Epic 80%, Legendary 20%) and 100 for a guaranteed Legendary; the Rare-egg tiers have the usual 1-in-20 chance of Gilded. There is no streak to keep: banked wins wait until you spend them, and you keep whatever is left over.

Serial numbers

When you’re online, every new dragon is registered and gets a worldwide serial number for its species. Serials come in runs of 9,999: the very first of a species is #AAA-0001, the 9,999th is #AAA-9999, then the next run starts at #AAB-0001, all the way to ZZZ. A dragon from the first run, AAA, is one of the earliest of its kind. The Dragodex shows how many of each species exist across all players.

Spare dragons

From version 2.2.0, you can release dragons you have more than one of. A released dragon flies off to the wild and leaves you Dragon Teeth for the Style Shop: more for rarer, Gilded and grown-up dragons.

RarityDragon Teeth
Common1
Uncommon2

A Gilded dragon leaves three times as many. Grown dragons leave more too: a Fledgling ×1.5, an Adult ×2, an Elder ×3, an Ancient ×4 and an Eternal ×5 (rounded up).

Some dragons always stay: your Companion, your last dragon of each species (so your Dragodex never goes backwards), and at least five dragons for Dragon Duels. A new dragon can be released from the day after it hatches. In your Lair, Release spares ticks the plain ones for you and keeps your best of each species; Gilded, grown, named and deck dragons only go if you tick them. You can also release a dragon from its page. Releasing can’t be undone.

Companions and Ascension

Choose any dragon as your Companion. From version 2.7.0 its face marks every dragon you place on the board. Every day in a row you solve at least one daily puzzle together builds your bond, and long bonds make your Companion ascend to a stronger form:

Hatchlingwhen it hatches
Fledgling7 days in a row
Adult30 days
Elder180 days
Ancient365 days
Eternal720 days

When your Companion is ready, you get to watch it ascend: tap Ascend and it changes into its new form. You can share the moment as a picture. A dragon keeps the stages it has reached. Switching Companions ends the current bond and starts a fresh one with the new dragon. The game asks first if you’d lose a bond.

Can’t wait for Fledgling? Open any Hatchling in your Lair and you can choose to watch three short ads to make it a Fledgling straight away (your progress is saved between ads). Its details note that it grew up early. This only works for that first step: Adult, Elder, Ancient and Eternal can only be reached with a long bond.

Streaks, shields and rekindling

Dragon Duels

Battle your dragons card against card. Open Dragon Duels on the home screen once you have five dragons. From version 2.6.0 a duel is a battle: five hearts each, six stats, crushing blows and KOs.

From version 2.11.0 a duel takes you into the arena: the screen opens onto a torch-lit pit with your opponent on their plinth at the top, their banners in their element’s colour, and your hand fanned at the bottom. Tap a card to pick it, or drag it up into the pit to play it; when it’s your call, the six stats rise over the pit as rune tiles. The rules are the same as ever.

Three rivals: Dai the Apprentice, Seren the Tamer (a fair match for your deck) and Gwyn the Dragonlord (stronger, and sharp). Each win earns embers and Dragon Teeth for your first five wins a day, and every one of those prize wins goes into your win bank, which buys eggs: three for an Ember egg, or save up to 10, 25, 50 or 100 for rarer ones (from version 2.10.0; before it, every ten prize wins laid a Lucky egg). Dragon Teeth (called Scales before version 2.1.0) are earned, never bought: win them in duels or release spare dragons, and spend them in the Style Shop.

Other Tamers: with a Tamer name you can duel the decks of other Tamers (the computer plays their dragons, with Gwyn’s sharp mind; a win is worth +3 embers and +3 Dragon Teeth), and share your own deck for them to take on. You’re matched on your deck’s strength and, from version 2.1.0, on how your last ten duels against Tamers went: win a lot and you’ll meet stronger decks, lose a few and they ease off. Sharing shows your Tamer name and your deck’s dragons (never the names you gave them); switch it off any time in Dragon Duels.

Duel a friend, live: in Dragon Duels, tap Invite a friend and send the link. When your friend taps it, Dragodoku opens straight into your duel (from version 2.1.0). Sitting together? They can scan the QR code on your screen with their phone’s camera instead. Each invite also has a six-character room code, which works in Join with a code. Invites last 30 minutes. You each play your own deck from your own phone. Your dragon stays hidden until you’ve both played, so neither of you can peek. A win counts toward the day’s five prize wins (+3 embers and +3 Dragon Teeth); leaving part-way counts as nothing for either of you. You both need a Tamer name, so you know who you’re playing. From version 2.2.0, when a duel ends you can both tap Rematch to play again straight away, with no new invite. From version 2.6.0 both phones need 2.6.0 or later, so you both play by the same rules: an older Dragodoku is told to update.

The Style Shop

From version 2.0.0, Dragon Teeth (won in duels, or left by spare dragons you release) buy new looks for your dragons. Find the Style Shop on the home screen, or tap Shop by your Dragon Teeth in Dragon Duels.

Six collections (from version 2.10.0): the Everyday styles, twelve plain and pleasant looks from 8 to 18 Dragon Teeth, so a few wins buy your first; the First styles, Elements, Seasons and Fine Finishes at 30 to 100; and the Treasures, six styles worth saving for at 160 to 250 (a crown, dragon scales, a halo, phoenix fire, obsidian and prismatic colours).

Try anything on before you buy it. Each style is bought once and is yours for good, to use on any dragon as often as you like; change or remove them on a dragon’s page, under Style. Styles are looks only: they never change a dragon’s strength, and nothing in the shop is random. They stay on your phone (and in your backup), so other players see your dragons in their usual colours.

Leaderboards

The leaderboards are updated every few minutes:

You can share your day as a picture: your five puzzles, your Companion and its progress to the next stage, and your streak. Ascensions can be shared the same way. To appear on the leaderboards, choose a Tamer name on the leaderboard screen or in Settings. It’s optional. Your name gets a four-digit number, like Nimbus#4821, so lots of players can share a name. You can change it once every 20 hours. Leaderboard times need a connection when you tap Start and when you finish.

Keep names friendly: no rude or hateful words, and no real names or contact details. If you see a name that breaks these rules, tap it on the leaderboard to report it. Names that break the rules are hidden, and their owner can then choose a new one. To remove your Tamer name altogether, email us.

Events

Special events bring dragons you can only hatch for a short time: twelve painted dragons for each of five seasons (from version 2.5.0). While an event runs, every solve, daily or practice, has a 12% chance to drop its egg, and solving the daily on the event’s big day guarantees one. An event egg hatches one of the event’s dragons: each Rare one has weight 14, each Epic 6 and each Legendary 2, and every event egg has a 3% chance of Gilded. Event dragons are a bonus and don’t count towards the 390 in the Dragodex.

Questions

How do I redeem a gift code?

Open Settings → Redeem a gift code and type the code. Codes from PyroDadDev contain a specific dragon, sometimes a special one, or an egg to hatch. Each code works once, and you need to be online to redeem it.

What’s an air drop?

Every so often PyroDadDev drops a surprise egg or dragon into the games of players picked at random from those who solved a daily puzzle recently, and sometimes sends a gift to one player. There’s nothing to type: it lands in your nest the next time you open the game while online, with a note from us. Air drops are free, can’t be bought, and the more often you play, the more likely you are to be in the draw.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Everything you play is saved on your phone. Serial numbers and worldwide counts catch up the next time you’re online, and your daily times join the rankings if you’re back online by the next day. Leaderboard times are the exception: they need a connection when you tap Start and when you finish.

I’ve changed phones. Can I bring my dragons?

Yes, if you back up first. Open Settings → Back up with Google (or tap the card on the home screen) and pick your Google account. From then on the game saves your whole Lair to it by itself: every dragon and its stage, your streak, eggs, embers and Tamer name. It’s optional, and the backup is private to your Google sign-in.

On your new phone, install Dragodoku and tap Played before? Restore your dragons on the first screen (or Settings → Back up with Google later) with the same Google account, then Restore. You come back as the same player, with the same serial numbers and leaderboard name. If the new phone already has dragons, you choose which Lair to keep. If you bought Remove Ads, use Settings → Restore purchase to get it back too.

Stop backing up signs out and keeps the backup ready to restore. Delete my backup removes it, and your sign-in, from our server. See the privacy policy for exactly what is kept.

Are the daily puzzles the same for everyone?

Yes. Everyone gets the same five boards on the same date, which is what makes the rankings fair.

Something’s wrong, or I have an idea

Email pyrodaddev@googlegroups.com. If it’s about a dragon, include its name and serial number from the card.
